Practitioner Profile
My name is Ellena Barton, I am a fully qualified and certified HypnoBirthing Practitioner, based in Oxford. I gave birth to my son, Sean, in April 2008 using HypnoBirthing techniques. I had an absolutely amazing experience, with no drugs (including gas and air), his birth took just 4.5 hours!

When I first fell pregnant, like many mums-to-be, I was initially happy and excited, then as my pregnancy progressed became scared and worried about the physical delivery. I had heard that hypnotheraphy could help with childbirth so whilst carrying out some research I came across HypnoBirthing. The benefits and birth stories sounded amazing, I spoke with a local practitioner and booked the course. My partner, initially a sceptic who only went along with me “to keep the peace” was soon fully on board once the classes started.
I changed from dreading labour to being really excited about meeting my baby.
Once my son was born I spoke to other new mums about their experiences of the lead up to birth and the birth itself. I heard time and time again key words such as pain, fear, scared, dreading it, instruments, drugs, failure to progress, ordeal etc etc. I had had such a different and amazing experience that I felt angry on their behalf.
It was at this point I decided to train to be a practitioner, I want to give other women the opportunity to experience an amazing birth they will positively remember for the rest of their lives - the amazing day they met their child.
